Jack the Monkey

I'm in a weird mood, so the next character who gets a review is Jack the Monkey. I honestly think he was the funniest part of this movie besides Jack (not the monkey) and his Jackish lines. And actually, the monkey who plays Jack is a she! (To avoid confusion, Jack-not-the-monkey will here on in be referred to as Jackie. You know, like what his dad calls him.)

First of all, it has the cutest little outfit in Singapore. Flat conical hat and all. And it turns the wheel for a little music-playing thingy, and sets off a firework with the parrot. But undoubtedly the cutest bit with Jack the monkey was on the ship to world's end, where he's on a barrel covered in icicles and shivering. To do this, they used a) a ton of makeup and b) a barrel that vibrated. How ingenious is that!

And have I ever mentioned the weirdness of Geoffrey Rush? See, he's Barbossa, and he's firmly convinced that audiences view a movie screen from left to right. He's also firmly convinced that in any shot inclusive of him, Elizabeth and the monkey, he must be on the left side. Because who's going to look at Barbossa if they can look at Elizabeth and the monkey? And the funniest thing, particularly in CoTBP, is that he manages it almost all the time!

But back to Jack the monkey. He gets shot out of a cannon, too, which is debatably the cutest shot in the movie, and at the very end Barbossa (Barbossa!) talks baby talk to him. If I haven't been just recovering from tears at this point I would have laughed my head off. I'm sure there were many more adorable shots of Jack the monkey, but I can't remember them. So enlighten me, guys!

Elizabeth Swann Turner

Elizabeth's....Turn! That was a really bad pun. Excuse me. Anyway, yes, Elizabeth in AWE was actually the best Elizabeth out of all three movies. She had a wide range of emotions and she didn't do any pouting (heehee, Erin).

Also, she can fight while wearing VERY little. I was amused by her large arsenal of weapons upon entering to see Sao Feng, particularly the blunderbuss that she got from WHERE? That thing was as big as one of her legs! Though admittedly, that's not saying much. Anyway, she ended up going in dressed in something amounting to an undershirt, and still swordfought - and escaped without a scratch! That's talent for you.

Next bit with Elizabeth that I liked was on the journey home from World's End, where they sail through a whole bunch of dinghies bearing people who died at sea. Elizabeth's father is one of them, and I really liked how frantic she was and prepared to jump over the side in order to get to him, because it sorta showed that she still loves him despite how they fight for different sides. And then, of course, Will hugged her while she cried and I just melted, I thought it was so sweet. Will = love.

Elizabeth does a lot of being-in-charge this movie, being the captain of a ship and a Pirate Lord and eventually the Pirate King, and I don't know if it really quite works for her, but she made an awesome speech partway through. I can't remember where, but it was very inspirational. I used to have it on my desktop background.

There's a very...interesting...scene with Elizabeth and Sao Feng, where he thinks she's Calypso and she ad libs it very well once she realizes how he's misconstrued things. I mean, when you have Elizabeth and Tia Dalma, which one are YOU going to assume is Calypso? Exactly. Anyway, she's really only saved from being kissed by yet ANOTHER guy by an explosion, which I think is a blast of cannon from the Dutchman.

Then she and the Singaporean crew get thrown into the brig of the Dutchman, and Elizabeth comes across Norrington. She's sorta mad at him, I think because she blames him for having something to do with her father's death, and it has an impact on him because he helps them escape. And dies in the process. Someone on Arwen-Undomiel...I believe it was Ánië Súrion...pointed this out yesterday: Elizabeth kisses four guys in the course of end of DMC/AWE, and they all die almost immediately afterwards! She kisses Jack at the end of DMC - he dies. She comes very, VERY close to kissing Sao Feng (or did she actually kiss him?) - he dies. She kissed Norrington - he dies. And lastly, she kisses Will - and he died. Yeesh, by the end of the movie it's a lucky thing Will is immortal or he should have been verrrry concerned at their kiss on the beach!

It's amazing. The next scene that jumps out at me for Elizabeth is just after Will is stabbed - and this is because I covered a lot of the Elizabeth scenes with Will's post - and she's pretty much frantic. Now this is very interesting. Elizabeth's trying to keep Will alive and Jack is standing there with the heart, all ready to stab it - and next thing you know he's used Will's hand to stab it. So, as I'm sure the Sparrabethers have already decided, did he do it for Elizabeth? Did he do it for Will? I think Elizabeth's words from DMC came back to bite him. "There will come a time when you have the chance to do the right thing." And the chance came - and he did! I loved him right there. But what was with Jack and Elizabeth floating off on a weird air-balloon thing made out of one of the Dutchman's sails? Bit weird.

Anyway, I liked Elizabeth a lot better in this movie than in DMC - though the fact that she wasn't wavering romantically between Jack and Will may have had something to do with it. And it's a testament to her character that she was faithful for TEN YEARS with no husband. Though she did get her happy ending!

Okay, just to interject because I'm not sure everybody caught this, it IS A happy ending. See, Will has to captain the Dutchman for ten years. But if his true love on land is faithful for ten years, when he comes back the curse is broken and he passes on the captaincy of the Dutchman. So they waited ten years, but then Will could come back to be with Elizabeth and Will the 3rd.

Will: "I told myself, 'Think like Jack.'"
Jack: "And this is what you arrived at? Lead Beckett to Shipwreck Cove so as to gain his trust, accomplish your own ends? It's like you don't know me at all, mate."

William Turner

I'm pretty sure you all knew Will would have to come after Jack (and Elizabeth will get her own post, but there'll be a lot of her in this one as well). I'm just too much of a Will fan. Anyway, Will in this particular Pirates movie should have, once and for all, laid the theory that he's 'just a pretty face' to rest. Will does nearly as much conniving as Jack here, and in my humble opinion he's pretty brilliant.

So the movie starts with Elizabeth and Barbossa in Singapore, going to see Sao Feng (Pirate Lord of the South China Sea) to beg a crew off him. At the same time Will was supposed to be stealing a certain collection of charts from Sao Feng's uncle. So they go in to see Sao Feng and discover unpleasantly that Will has been captured in the act of doing so. This sorta morphs into a full-fledged battle between Singaporeans and our characters and eventually the EITC, in which Will (if you'll pardon the expression) kicks some serious butt. Even without a sword.

So they get away with the charts and go off to World's End, now that they know how to get there, to find Jack. Somehow they end up with a Singaporean crew, but I forget how it was. Somebody enlighten me if you know. Here lies the first W/E scene. Will to Elizabeth: "How long do we continue not talking?" Elizabeth responds with something along the lines of, "Once we rescue Jack everything will be all right." I could have kicked her right here. If Will thinks she loves Jack, that line's sure not going to convince him otherwise. Anyway, they get to World's End, rescue Jack, dum de dum - oh, and I forgot a Jack quote here. He says it to Will. "Will you tell me something? Have you come because you need my help to save a certain distressing damsel? Er... rather damsel in distress? Either one." To which the answer is obviously no, as Elizabeth is there with him.

So they sail back, during which time the second W/E scene happens. And I can't remember the exact lines, but it goes something like this:
Will: Why didn't you tell me? [that she'd chained Jack to the Pearl, and only kissed him so she could do so]
Elizabeth: It wasn't your burden to bear
Will: But I did anyway, didn't I? Elizabeth, I thought...
Elizabeth: You thought I loved him
[Here she makes as if to go but he puts his hands on her shoulders and pushes her against the post behind them. To interject, this is unusual behavior for Will, and it made me very slightly uneasy, but not much]
Will: How can I trust you if you make your decisions alone?
Elizabeth [on the verge of tears]: You can't

Yeah, I maybe cried here for the first time. I can't remember. It was sad, anyway. And there a scene later where Will says, "I need the Pearl to save my father. That's the only reason I came on this voyage." And Elizabeth goes, "Why didn't you tell me?" and Will replies, "It wasn't your burden to bear." Which made me sad, to see them at odds like that.

And really, as you could anticipate, the movie goes a little foggy for me at this point so the next Will scene I remember is him in the cabin of the Endeavor (Beckett's ship) drinking tea and negotiating with Beckett and Davy. I don't remember any of the dialogue except:
Davy: [smashes cup]
Will: ...I wasn't finished that.

Then he gets thrown in the brig somehow (something to do with why he came on the voyage, Jack's mad at him) and has a discussion with Jack later. It starts with Jack: "You escaped the brig quicker than I thought you would." That was sort of funny. At the moment Will is tying dead bodies to barrels and letting them loose for Beckett to follow (it was part of the deal) so Jack and Will have a very interesting discussion that boils down to a deal: Jack stabs the heart, Will and Elizabeth live happily ever after, and Will's father is freed. I liked this plan until Jack shoved Will off the deck of the Pearl, which didn't do much for my faith in him.

Movie goes foggy again, and I'm sure there's another Will scene, but next one I remember is the battle. BEST MARRIAGE SCENE EVER. I wouldn't say I want to get married like this, but it would be amazing.
Will: Will you marry me?
Elizabeth: [fighting a battle] I don't think now's the best time!
Will: Now may be the only time! I love you. I made my choice. What's yours?
Elizabeth: Barbossa!
[Will looks confused]
Elizabeth Swann [cont'd]: Marry us!
I almost died of happiness. Barbossa is suitably incredulous but starts marrying them anyway, while all three of them are fighting, and Will and Elizabeth sorta continue it.
Will: Elizabeth Swann, do you take me as your husband?
Elizabeth: I do!
Will: ...great!
[interject with some awesome fighting]
Elizabeth: William Turner, do you take me to be your wife, in sickness and in health, health being the less likely?
Will: I do!
Barbossa: You may kiss...
[fighting]
Barbossa: You may now kiss...
[fighting]
Barbossa: Just kiss!
So they do! One of the best kisses ever, besides the W/E one on the beach at the end. I was really amazingly happy at this part until Will got stabbed later. I'm pretty sure I gasped or something at that point and burst into tears, while Elizabeth is panicking and Jack is holding the heart about to stab it, looking stupefied. Davy's laughing maniacally or something, but next thing you know Jack's beside dying Will using his hand to stab the heart. Cried even harder here. I sorta knew that was coming, I don't know how, but I was sad. Then Bootstrap goes, "The Dutchman must always have a Captain!" and the Dutchman dives, but as it does so you can see Bootstrap poised to cut out Will's heart. How he did this to his SON, we don't know, and it begs the question: Davy cut his heart out because he didn't want to feel emotion, right? But Will's got no problem with feeling emotion, so why couldn't he keep his heart?

Maybe so that they could put in the next awesome Will line: "It's always been yours. Will you keep it safe?" as he hands the chest (with the heart) to Elizabeth. This is after they've spent a day on the beach (Will's one day that he has before sailing for ten years) doing...what married people do. Will the 3rd is ostensibly created here. And then - best kiss ever! In front of the sunrise...I was still crying...and then Will sails off to not see Elizabeth again for ten years.

Now, if you wait until after the credits, there's a scene with Elizabeth and a boy about nine years old walking to the edge of a cliff over a beach. They see the green flash, a phenomenon that happens when the sun sets and signifies a soul returning from the land of the dead - and then Will sailing in on the Dutchman. Happily ever after - a little long in coming, but it still happened!

*Sniffle*

Makes me happy.

Jack: You take the shore party, I'll stay with my ship
Barbossa: I'm not leavin' you alone with my ship
Will: Why don't you both go ashore and I'll look after the ship
[both look at him]
Will: Temporarily

The Immortal Captain Jack Sparrow

AKA Witty Jack, Jackie (!), and Lord of the Caribbean Sea. I've decided there's too much to say about AWE, I need to devote a blog post to each character. And you know, Jack just had to come first. Spoilers sail these waters! Yarr!

So about these scenes with Multiple Jacks. Funniest things ever. It was bizarre to see him afraid of himself and ordering himself around and shooting/stabbing himself....Jack multiplied about thirty times is just weird. And the Jack-on-each-shoulder, though neither was really a devil or an angel, which is incidentally entirely in keeping with Jack's personality. Besides the rare time, he does what works best for him regardless of who it may affect.

I laughed when he was on the beach deciding who could sail with him. To Ragetti: "Not you. You scare me." And, "Four of you have tried to kill me in the past. One of you succeeded."

Pretty much every one of Jack's lines is funny. He was even more double-crossing than usual in this movie, so much so that I absolutely adored him when he's standing there with the heart and Will gets stabbed. "There will come a time when you have the chance to do the right thing." And wow, he did. I guess that's a point in the Sparrabethers' favor, that he gave up the chance to be Immortal Captain Jack so that Will could live (or somewhat live) for Elizabeth. Though the point could be argued that he did it for Will, I'm sure they're all arguing he did it for Elizabeth.

Okay, other best lines: "It never would have worked out between us, Jack." "Keep telling yourself that, love." I'm intrigued by this. What did he mean? That he thought it would have but he didn't want her to think that? That sounds way too Sparrabethery, that can't be it. Or maybe he didn't love her and didn't want her to love him? There's no concrete proof that he loves her.

And - *Elizabeth goes in for a kiss* "Once is quite enough." This sorta fits better with my second theory, but looking back on it I find it amusing. Thought you could get Jack and Will and Norrington all in one movie, eh Lizzie? Darn.

Last one - Gibbs: "The ship's gone!" Jack: *feigned surprise* Tee hee.

Erin, you're rubbing off on me, I'm tempted to explore other names for Sparrabeth. Jackabeth...Elizajack...Sparraswann...Jackswann...nah, I like Sparrabeth.

And really bad eggs...

"You pay me a great insult, Jack Sparrow."
"That doesn't sound like me."

P.S. At the end when the compass pointed to the rum! THAT'S what I like to see.

I made it!

WARNING: DO NOT READ UNLESS YOU'VE A) SEEN THE MOVIE (DUH AS TO WHICH ONE) OR B) ARE ENTIRELY OKAY WITH HAVING IT SPOILED UTTERLY FOR YOU.

That's so nobody gets mad at me. Ha.

As I thought, I was practically shaking before it started, and I sobbed through the entire last half hour of it. At the beginning I was extremely disoriented, and had no idea what was happening or how, but it got better. Everybody switched sides all over the place in this one, no joke, I don't think anyone stayed on the same side for the entire movie. At all. So I totally lost track of the plot in some bits, which means a synopsis of said plot will NOT be happening here, because I would totally mess it up.

Will was SO AMAZING! I need to marry a guy whose last name is Turner. Granted, if I only see him every ten years that would be a drag but oh my gosh Will is just...instant love. He had so much more of a commanding role in this movie, I loved it. There's this one line near the beginning where they're sailing to World's End and he says "How long do we continue not talking?" and then Elizabeth says something about when Jack is rescued it'll be all right, and I practically shouted at her right there in the theater. Elizabeth! You have the best guy in the entire WORLD and look what you're doing to him! It's just wrong! Anyway. I absolutely adored the marriage-in-the-battle scene, he was amazing in that, and I totally burst into tears the minute he got stabbed at the end. Totally did. And sobbed until the end of the movie.

Elizabeth was, in my opinion, better than I've ever seen her. She showed some much-needed emotion at her father's death and at Norrington's and at Will's - though I guess Will's wasn't really death. I thought it was for a heartstopping three seconds or so in which I totally thought the world was ending, but it wasn't so it was okay. I practically held my breath through all the romantic scenes. Elizabeth is the luckiest girl in the world. Or at the end of it. It was so sad and happy and heartbreaking, at the end. THAT'S true love, when you'll wait ten years to see your husband for one night.

Jack...whoa. I totally lost track of Jack through most of it. The scenes with multiple Jacks were just extremely bizarre, but amusing. I loved how he did the right thing at the end, letting Will stab the heart, and his line to Elizabeth about once being quite enough. Jack was so good in this one.

I could go on about Norrington and Davy and Tia/Calypso and Captain Teague and the Pirate Lords and Barbossa and the monkey...actually, I will say about the monkey that it was the cutest thing ever in this one...but on we go. I will be posting more about AWE as I remember it, this is not the only review you'll see.

The marriage scene! In the battle! Best thing ever in the entire world or at the end of it. I was laughing/crying through the entire thing. It was just...amazing.

I felt and still feel really emotionally drained and I practically get teary every time I think of the ending....especially the scene at the very end of the credits. That kid looked so much like Will.

I know I'm being repetitive...but I want to marry a Will!

How am I going to have a purpose in life now?

Possible answer: Pirates 4.

Drink up, me hearties, yo ho!

~Sil

Today's the day!

That's right. Today's the day I've been counting down to since it was 200+ days away, the day I was sure I couldn't wait for after DMC came out. And oddly, I almost don't want to see AWE. I almost want to keep wondering and hoping and being deliciously apprehensive. Almost. But not enough to not be insanely excited for five o'clock, and think that six hours is going to last a lifetime. I waited all year. I can wait six more hours.

And oddly enough, this year is the second year I've decided against going to YC and the second year I've been offered a free ticket last-minute. And unfortunately, also the second time I couldn't go. Susie and Ben would be devastated if I couldn't take them to Pirates, I don't want to miss it myself, I have a piano recital on Saturday and a planned excursion with Natalie - and the thought of having to juggle all that, much as I would love to go to YC, just didn't work. Plus Third Age came in the mail today and I intend to spend as much of my weekend as possible playing.

Went door-knocking last night! It was SO fun. We finished at nine and then went to Tim Hortons and Mike bought Cathay and Dad and I donuts and coffee (Ice Caps, in most of our cases) and we had such a good time. I honestly think I'm about the luckiest fifteen-year-old in the universe to get to sit around and chat with my MP. Yay.

Five and a half hours now!

~Sil

"Your legal point?"
"Oh, was I supposed to have one? Darn."

*Inarticulate noise*

I think I'm going to go insane. Around the bend. Over the cliff. Out of my mind. I can't wait the next 29 hours! I CAN'T! It's agony! What if I don't get my W/E ending? What if I do? What am I going to do when it ENDS, when there's no more Pirates and the credits are scrolling past to awesome Pirate music? No more Pirates! How am I going to live? Oh gosh I need to stay out of the At World's End thread on A-U! It makes me so nervous! Someone's already posted saying they hated it and NO! YOU CANNOT HATE PIRATES! I'm going to be shaking at five o'clock tomorrow when the movie starts. Seriously shaking. And I'm going to bawl my eyes out no matter WHAT happens, I absolutely know that. I'm going to remain in that theater until the last note of pirate music fades and then how am I ever going to live with the fact that it's DONE?!

*Sob*

Calm down.

Seriously, calm down.

It's just a movie. It's just a romantic pairing. There will be other movies and romantic pairings. Heck, you can write a book about your own romantic pairing if this one disappoints you.

*Slightly calmer*

Oh dear. I'm a nerd. But I'm still SO WORRIED/EXCITED/HAPPY/SAD/NERVOUS/NAME A RANDOM EMOTION that I think I'm gonna spontaneously combust.

Fun with a camera

Yes indeed, I took my camera to youth Bible study tonight. And came away with a billion pictures of Ellie, and three of Joel's hair. One (that's Kyle in the background. Or rather, Ky, the Ky half of Kyler. Tyler is the Ler half). Two (You can see Ellie here). Three (Bryan and Natalie and Ellie all in the background here). Joel's hilarious, he's such a great kid. Here's a (relatively) normal picture of Joel.

I really need to figure out how to resize pictures, they're way too big right now and it's annoying to always have to link to them.

And I got to talk to potr again today! It made my day. Again. I was sitting at the computer bored out of my mind and listening to Up Is Down from the AWE soundtrack while playing Alchemy (www.popcap.com) and then the phone rings and Susie is like "Texas? Why does it say Texas? Ooooh, it's Amy's Texas friend." And I was happy. Then we talked about Pirates and were both happy, and I was hyper for the next hour. See, Aerandir is sick and his mom won't let him on the computer much; Elegost has finals to revise for; potr is in New Orleans on a missions trip; Lady Dark Moon had been pretty much nonexistent for the last month or so; and those are pretty much the only people I talk to. Anyway, I told potr I was going to die because I would be so lonely, and she said she would phone me. So she did. And I'm not dead yet.

Camera!

I bought a camera today! It's the cutest little camera pretty much ever. It's a Canon Powershot and it's really little and silver and black. And about a centimeter thick. I would post a picture, but seeing as it's a camera and it TAKES the pictures, that wouldn't really work. And I'm too lazy to hunt up a picture of it online. Anyway, it's got an awesome little carrying case that I love and a memory card that holds more pictures than I'm ever gonna take (like, six hundred of 'em) and I'm excited!

Other than that, I spent today either a) watching my siblings play Harvest Moon or b) playing it myself. I've got them all hooked. You all should have seen them when it came time to get married, it was hilarious. For the males among us especially. I named my Harvest Moon chickens Fingers and Nugget, and then I ran out of creativity for the chick so it was Fuzz. And the cow is Beef. And the Sheep is Mutton. And my sister prevailed when it came to the horse so I relented (slightly) and called it Brego. Mostly because I don't know what horse meat is called, and the name had to be seven letters or less.

Oh! and there should be a c) there too! I got to talk to pirateoftherings on the phone! She's way down in New Orleans on a missions trip, and we weren't going to see each other on MSN all week, so she phoned me on her cell and we talked. It was really weird, hearing someone's voice who I've never met except online, but I was majorly hyped. It was awesome.

And a d) too, I guess....season finale of 24 tonight. Most unsatisfying. Chloe's pregnant. Jack needs professional help and some sleep. Nadia needs a guy who won't die on her, Bill and Karen need to have about three years of stress-free life, Noah Daniels needs to stop being Vice President, and Tom Lennox actually doesn't need anything. Wow. But what happened to Lisa? And Palmer? And does Audrey always look that pretty when she's sleeping?

Loooovely long weekend

I finally got to sleep in this Saturday! And I didn't have to do anything ALL day except go out to Future Shop and buy a GameCube controller, which I have since used to play Harvest Moon. I think it's going to prove just as addicting as I found it last summer. I also ordered Third Age off Amazon, and it should be here by next weekend, which makes me SO excited. Altogether, I've been pretty much perpetually hyper all weekend, and have started counting the hours until I go see AWE. Currently it's 118. Or more precisely, 117 and 54 minutes.

Anyway, tomorrow promises to be just as fun in an introverted huddle-under-the-covers-in-your-pyjamas-reading-Wheel-of-Time sort of way. Which is, of course, the best kind of fun unless you're talking Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End. Yay.

Musical Images

My piano teacher has assigned me a bit of an abstract project this week...I'm supposed to come up with stories/images/words that describe the pieces of music I'm playing in my exam. I have five I need to do, not counting Rohan, because it's a soundtrack piece and it automatically makes me think of Rohan and Edoras and Eowyn and the Golden Hall and all that good stuff. So:

Solfeggietto by C. P. E. Bach, List A: I don't have that much for this one, as it's basically scales and arpeggios put together in various minor keys and strewn all over the piano.

Sonata in G by Beethoven, List B: Sonatas in general are pretty happy pieces...I dunno, this one makes me think of flowers somehow, but that doesn't really seem to fit. It's got a lot of scales in it, too, and broken chords.

Puck by Edvard Grieg, List C: This one is sort of easy, as it's based off a mischievous little character who dances around causing trouble (odd...I have a couple siblings who would fit the bill) but I think I'll see if it reminds me of anything else before I go with that.

To The Rising Sun, Trygve Torjussen, List D: Again, not too hard, as the name basically says what it's about. Unlike things like Solfeggietto and Sonata in G.

Cappriccio, Handel, Study(1): Apparently 'Cappriccio' means joke or trick, but I'm thinking if it's a joke or trick it's a) a very serious joke that nobody laughs at or b) a nasty practical joke played by a little man in a mask who hums tunes in minor keys to himself while sneaking up behind people. Um. Don't mind me, I get weird images in my head. Actually, for this one I'm thinking it sounds sort of like a juggled who juggles a whole bunch of different things and colors while (heh) wearing a mask. Hey, it's my piece, I can think what I like about it.

EIGHT DAYS! (if you don't know what it's eight days till, you obviously don't read this with great regularity, know me very well, or listen to what I talk about for half my waking moments. So why are you reading this now?)

Bleargh

That pretty much describes me right now...I feel sorta gross. Not quite sick enough to have a break from school and stuff, but I slept for probably eleven hours last night and I'm STILL tired, and I have a headache and a sore throat and I'm thinking being able to breathe through my nose is something I won't enjoy for much longer. Ick. So really, I have not much to say...not even a quote for this post...I shall have to use an old one...

EDIT: Oh yeah, and I forgot, I changed my little display-pic-thingy. Doesn't it match nicely? I rather like it.

Break

Apologies for not posting sooner, I had a break from school last week. Also, I would have big news, except I'm pretty sure most of the people reading this already know. We got a Wii! As in, a Nintendo Wii! And it's pretty much the funnestmost fun thing ever. Yes, Erin, you do have some influence. Right now we only have Wii Sports, but my friend is going to lend me Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess and I'm planning to buy Third Age (which is a GameCube game) off Amazon. This requires a GameCube controller but they're not too expensive. And finally, as soon as I do get a GameCube controller the same friend is going to lend me Harvest Moon. So that makes me happy. I'm hoping my Wii fitness age goes down slightly as time passes (it's currently at 38), too.

During our school break I finished the first book of the Wheel of Time cycle, The Eye of the World, and I'm now working on the second one, The Great Hunt. Bryan lent me the prequel along with the eleven books of the series he has, so that'll keep me busy for a while. They're amazingly complex, almost to the level of LotR.

I really should go and work on my Costa Rica research paper...only six weeks left of school! And TEN DAYS until AWE!

Soundtrack!

Clips of the AWE soundtrack found here and it sounds like about the best soundtrack EVER. My favorite was I Don't Think Now Is The Best Time, and notice at the top of the page where it says "...as well as to the ends of the earth where not only do Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) and Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightly) get a new love theme, but it's a super-theme that also encompasses the lost love of Davy Jones and Calypso..." I think we can safely say that they're making their shipper pairings pretty obvious. I mean, not that I didn't already know that Davy and Tia have a history (Tia is Calypso, by the way, if you were confused) but I was under the impression it was an unexpected plot twist to be revealed. No talk of a Jack/Elizabeth love theme, and Jack continues to have his own wacky theme, which is just the way I like him. By himself. No strumpets, no Elizabeth, just him. I mean, I think I can safely extrapolate from a clip posted a while back that he doesn't end up with the strumpets, and a good thing too.

QUIZ MEET TODAY! And I've just been reflecting on how I used to get so crazy nervous for quiz meets. I'm crazy excited now, but nerves really don't have much of a part in it. Quiz meets just so fun. And it's almost as fun to watch other people do well as it is to do well yourself. Also, as I had completely forgotten until I read it on Erin's blog I'm in high school this year, which means I can stay up later. So that should be fun.

24

Oddly enough, yesterday 24 was on, and yesterday it was 24 days until PotC: AWE. Odd how that worked out, I just realized it. Anyway, I don't think anything important really happened in this last episode, just more of the same - Jack's in trouble. Audrey's suffering from some sort of mental trauma that makes her pretty much unresponsive to anyone but Jack, and he's in trouble, so that doesn't work well, and they need information from her in order to get the circuit board of the bomb back from the Chinese. Nadia is doing her best at CTU but what they really need is Bill, and we didn't see any of him. And we've learned that romance + a career in counter-terrorist tactics = nothing good. Chloe and Morris are seemingly 'done' (though you'd think that since they were divorced, they're already 'done') because Chloe 'crossed a line', even though I can't honestly say I care because I find Chloe slightly annoying and Morris...eh...anyway. They seem to be hinting at romance between Nadia/Milo and Nadia/Mike at the same time, and it's not like Mike and Milo are best friends, and lastly, Karen had to fire Bill from director and he's really not happy with her. So here's a general tip for you all: If you want your marriage to survive past a year, stay far, far away from CTU. Oh, and don't mix romance and the White House, because a) it grosses you out when guys of indeterminate age go for obviously young woman, and b) unless you're entirely assured of your boyfriend's loyalty (and even if you are), don't tell him vital information because he'll sell it to the Russians. Learned all that in this past episode. Amazing. I wish I could find a screencap of Tom's expression at one point when he and Evil Usurper Noah Daniels were discussing...eh...delicate matters, it was absolutely priceless. And he held it for so long, too.

Kitoky (from A-U) has kindly linked us 24 fans in general to a 24 blog which I'm currently giggling hysterically over, so I think y'all will like it. If you watch 24. And maybe even if you don't.

"How dreary to be somebody!
How public, like a frog
To tell your name the livelong day
To some admiring bog!" ~ Emily Dickinson, Poems, 1. I agree wholeheartedly.
